The following is a list of the known communities throughout the metropolitan Milwaukee area that require Certificates of Compliance.

  • Village of Bayside (414) 351-8811 The fee for a Certificate of Compliance is based on the square footage of your home. The fees includes the initial inspection and up to three re-inspections. 10 cents/sq ft + 40% administrative charge. Minimum fee $120.00 + 40% administrative fee Maximum fee $240.00 + 40% administrative fee. Certificate of compliance application form.
  • Town of Brookfield (262) 796-3790 Occupancy permits are required and are $35.00. Occupancy Permit form.   Certificates of Compliance are no longer required.
  • City of Brown Deer (414) 357-0100 Certificates of Compliance are required at a cost of $150.00.
  • City of Cedarburg (262) 375-7609 Certificates of Compliance are required.
  • Village of Fox Point (414) 351-8900 Certificates of Compliance are required at a cost of $100.00 and are valid for one year.
  • City of Glendale (414) 228-1702 Certificates of Compliance are required at a cost of $100.00/per unit.
  • City of Mequon (262) 242-3720 Certificates of Compliance are required at a cost of $61.00. If your property is not on the sanitary sewer system, then a Certificate of Compliance is not required.
  • City of Milwaukee has exterior Code Compliance in target areas of the city. (414) 286-3838 Exterior code compliance certificate is needed for any city of Milwaukee non-owner occupied property and any property located within the code compliant area. $75.00 There is only Exterior code compliance in the city of Milwaukee.
  • City of Muskego (262) 679-4110 – the council and Mayor decided to do away with it.
  • City of New Berlin (262) 786-8610 Certificates of Compliance are not required. However, at the time “city letters” are ordered prior to closing, New Berlin will provide a form letter to the property owner and originator of the “city letter” request. The letter will identify all permits that are currently on file for the specific property. It is the responsibility of the broker; buyer and seller to determine if any additions, replacements or repairs have been made to the property which were done without a permit. It is the responsibility of the listing and selling associate to make sure that the buyer has received a copy of the letter. The listing agent is advised to request the letter from New Berlin when listing the property.
  • Village of Shorewood (414) 963-6983 Certificates of Compliance are required at a cost of $50.00 for a condo, $75.00 for a single family, $100.00 for a duplex or two-family and $125.00 for a multi-family.
  • Village of Thiensville (262) 242-3720 has Clear Water Compliance inspections at a cost of $40.00.
  • Village of West Milwaukee (414) 645-1530 ext. 129 Pre-Purchase Residential Code of Compliance Program is effective starting July 1, 2007. The Village of West Milwaukee now requires home sellers to receive an inspection at a cost of $100 + $50 for each reinspection to maintain the health, safety and welfare of the community and its housing stock. The program monitors the general upkeep and maintenance of all residential properties, both single-family and multi-family, at the time of ownership change. Application form.
